John Deere Square Baler

Making large square bales of high-quality hay will get much easier in 2018 with the introduction of the model L331 and L341 Large Square Balers from John Deere.

Both models feature several customer-requested enhancements, including a new MegaWide pickup with or without precutter, and numerous hay-making options that hay producers can select from to best fit their operations.

These two new large square balers, which will replace the previous L300 Series Large Square Balers introduced in 2015, are 100 percent John Deere designed and built from front to back, says Travis Roe, senior marketing representative for hay tools for John Deere. “They are a perfect fit for commercial hay producers, as well as larger dairy and beef producers, who demand more consistent bale densities with less crop loss, and who want to spend more time baling and less time clearing plugs and servicing the machine.”

AGCO 9800 Series Windrower

AGCO has announced updates to its Massey Ferguson WR9800 Series SP Windrower and 2200 Series large square baler.

“The WR9800 Series now offers a RearSteer option, giving operators more on-road benefits like greater ease of transportation, best-in-class speed and enhanced stability at higher speeds,” AGCO says in a release. “The 2200 Series now offers a ProCut option with the models 2250, 2270 and 2270XD, giving operators the capacity they need to keep up with the growing demand of increased feeding capacity and more consistent cutting, even in higher-moisture crops.”

2015 John Deere Large Square Baler

John Deere has introduced two new L Series Square Balers, the L330 and the L340. These large balers are designed to maximize performance, increase uptime, and lower the overall cost of operation for commercial hay equipment owners and operators.

“We’ve been working for years to develop a large square baler that will meet the tough demands of our commercial hay customers,” says Jeremy Unruh, product line manager, Ottumwa Works. “And now we’re very pleased to launch the new L Series Square Balers with High-Capacity Rotor to offer more efficiency, capacity, and performance to commercial hay producers in the U.S. and Canada.”

Hesston 2200 Series Square Baler

Hesston by Massey Ferguson introduced the 2200 Series large square baler at the 2013 Farm Progress show in Decatur, Ill. According to Hesston, new features engineered into the 2200 Series help custom harvesters and producers bale a wider variety of crops, particularly crop residue, under a broad range of conditions.

“With increasing crop yields, the need to bale excess residue like straw and corn stalks is really driving demand for balers such as the 2200 Series. Baling is a management solution that gets excess residue off the field to help ensure top yields the following year,” says Dean Morrell, product marketing manager for hay and forage. “The growing biomass fuels industry also requires a durable, reliable machine with the capability to handle a wide range of crops, often in less-than-perfect conditions. The 2200 Series has this type of capacity.”
