My First TLB
By Matthew Crandall(Owner), Jul. 4, 2011
I bought this TLB in November 2010 and it now has about 40 hours on it. This is my first TLB purchase.
I am satisfied with the tractor. But it has some annoying quirks. First, it is really loud. This might be typical with all tractors of this size, but I was surprised none the l

ess. My neighbor has one of the smaller Cub Cadet Yanmars, the sc2450 I think, and his is much quieter than mine. I feel like I can't use it in the morning, lest my neighbors call the police!
Second, it makes really awful creaking and clanging noises. Not having owned a TLB before, I'm not really certain just how much noise I should expect from the hydraulic transmission, but I must confess I wasn't expecting this much. It really creaks and grinds when I'm climbing hills, and my land has a lot of hills. (I think most of the clanging is from the various lose metals parts that are hanging on it: the pins for the backhoe, and the lock bolts for the ROPS. The pins are meant to be stored on the tractor, but Cub Cadet needed to put a rubber gasket inside the pin holes to stop the vibration. (Maybe I should take the pins and stow them in the barn.)
Third, the backhoe controls are really touchy. I bought two buckets for the backhoe, 20" and 8". As it turns out, the 20" bucket is almost too much weight for the backhoe to handle. I've begun to wonder if the hydraulic piston for the boom is malfunctioning: it is really touchy and difficult to control with any precision, even after many hours of practice. The controls for the other pistons are quite smooth and responsive by comparison. I've no complaints about the Loader at all. It is both responsive and powerful.
Fourth, I noticed many errors in the owners manual for this tractor. I wrote a letter documenting these mistakes to Cub Cadet, but they never responded to me whatsoever. I consider this to be an unprofessional way to deal with your customer.
My final complaint is not really the tractors fault at all: I underestimated just how big this tractor was. (It seemed smaller on the dealers lot.) I've quickly realized that my trails through the woods will need some serious widening before the tractor will fit on them. A 61" bucket is really a clumsy thing to navigate around trees with.
On the plus side, I've determined that I can get a good 12+ hours of work out of the tractor before I need to fill the fuel tank.
