Versatile little tractor

I purchased a new JD 1025R FILB for landscape work on my property.
I was replacing a Terramite T5 that we had for several years. The Terramite was rugged but small and not all that powerful. I really wanted the ability to add implements and the 3PH that you get with a SCUT fit th

After two weekends and 25 hrs of some pretty tough work removing trees, grading, moving 20 yards of gravel and sand I have a few observations.
First, You will find this unit incredibly easy to use. It took me no time to find and adapt to the controls. Everything is in the right place and this makes getting things done much quicker. I'm finding that it works without thinking too much about the tractor but more about what your doing. The unit is all day comfortable. Again, there is no reaching or stretching for the controls. The seat is really great.
The drive is very good and even with the smaller tires, the 1025 rides nice with just the right turn ratio to provide accurate control. And the 4 wheel drive is excellent. The diff lock works too......I got it really muddy.
The little Yanmar engine fires right up and after about 3 seconds settles into a nice idle. It provides all the power you will ever need for a SCUT and I have rarely run it out to the max RPM. Most of the work I've done so far needed about 2400 to 2700 RPM to accomplish the task. So far it's been more efficient and quieter than I thought it would be.
The bucket and hoe both work well. The bucket has good control and visibility is good allowing you to work in tight spaces. When your ready to use the hoe, the seat spins around easily into an elevated position that's just right. There is quite a bit of space in front of the hoe controls and you can work there for at least an hour with ease. The hoe itself is reasonably powerful but has it's limits. It's not the fastest implement but it's accurate and easy to control. The average small farm or estate owner will probably never need more.
When buying a 1025R. There are a few things to keep in mind: It will do about anything you ask it to do but can be a little slow at times. I think this is typical of SCUTs. It will get into some pretty tight spaces and you need to be careful, It's pretty powerful and can do untended damage to the surroundings pretty quickly. Because it's a JD, parts will likely always be available for it. That's a good thing because it will probably last far at least the next 25 years.
I looked at the JD last thinking that it would be overpriced. It was not. It was competitively priced and you get a lot of tractor for your money. I believe it to be a good value.
