Yanmar America and MTD have announced that the two companies are modifying their business partnership. Since 2006, Yanmar and MTD have been jointly marketing Yanmar’s compact utility tractors under the Cub Cadet Yanmar brand. Effective Sept. 1, Yanmar will begin distributing its compact utility tractors directly to dealers.

Cub Cadet Yanmar branded tractor models currently in the market will continue to be manufactured by Yanmar but will display only the Yanmar brand. Yanmar also will take over product support within the current distribution channel.

“The compact tractor market in North America is beginning to rebound from the economic downturn, and we believe that now is the perfect time for Yanmar to take on full responsibility for sales, marketing and customer service of our compact tractors,” says Katsumi Deguchi, executive vice president of Yanmar America. “By doing this, Yanmar will be able to focus more directly and efficiently on the specific needs of our compact tractor dealers and their customers. The transition to all of our customers will be seamless. We have appreciated the great marketing, sales and service our MTD partners have provided.”

John Deere says its 8335R Tractor achieved industry-leading OECD test results from the Nebraska Tractor Test Lab, Lincoln, Neb.

“This is the first row-crop tractor ever tested in Nebraska that breaks the 300-rated PTO horsepower barrier,” says Chad Hogan, division marketing manager, Waterloo Tractor Works. “This tractor delivers a record 306.6 PTO hp in the rated-engine-speed PTO test. This will not last long, however, as our largest model, the 8360R, is also undergoing official Nebraska OECD testing.”

The 8335R delivers record-breaking power while maintaining industry-leading fluid efficiency. In the 75 percent of pull at max power drawbar test, the 8335R delivers 15.45 hp hrs/gal.

“That’s better fuel efficiency than the 8320R it replaced and up to 28 percent more efficient than Tier 3 competitive tractors’ official results,” says Hogan.

A Caterpillar Expo Twenty Tractor built in 1927 was displayed at this year’s CONEXPO-CON/AGG.

This tractor has the distinction of being the first machine wholly designed and built by what was once called Caterpillar Tractor Co. Prior to producing the Expo Twenty, Caterpillar had been manufacturing track-type tractors using the assets and designs of its two predecessor companies, the C.L. Best Tractor Co. and The Holt Manufacturing Company. But when this unit rolled off the assembly line, it received an all-new serial number, EXP 0000-L, and earned a place in company history.

Its designation as an “EXP” or “expo” machine suggests it was either built for a special occasion or used by Cat dealers as a marketing tool at county and state fairs or other local events. The “L” in the serial number indicates it was manufactured in San Leandro, Calif.
